L1 Online Learning Work Record:
Term 2 Week 1:
1. Watch the two videos I created - 'Connections assessment instructions' and 'Thinking Statements.'
2. Personal reading response #3 will still be due this Friday (17th April) - if you are struggling to complete it by then, please email me. Many of you have done a third one already anyway.
3. You should aim to have the planning for your connections done by next Tuesday (Tuesday 21st April) so that I can start to give you feedback and check over what you have done. This means you should have watched/read your texts and taken notes/thought about what each text shows you about your connection.
4. I suggested considering writing questions for yourself around your specific connection so that you are focusing on your theme when you watch/read your texts. Answering the questions for each text will help you to see similarities and differences, and to come up with the thinking statements for your texts.

Term 2 Week 2:
1. Finish your planning and share it with me.
2. Read through the exemplars if you have not already done so.
3. Start to frame up your connections essay. Aim to have the introduction and part of the first text done this week.
Due date for connections: Friday 1st May (end of Week 3)

Term 2 Week 3:
Your connections assessment is due this Friday. Make sure your essay is complete and in your folder by the end of Friday.
Term 2 Week 4:
Firstly, congratulations for handing in your connections essay! We are now moving on to a new unit of work, in preparation for your exams at the end of the year.
Tasks this week:
1. Watch the video introducing you to our novel study. I have shared it with you. This is the novel that we will study for your external exam. We will complete the pre-reading task in our zoom session on Tuesday. File this doc in your 'Novel Study' folder.
2. Throughout the week, read (or listen to/follow along with) the first 10 chapters of the novel. This is 80 pages, so it is not as many as it sounds. The folder containing the audio recordings has been emailed to you, and will be in your 'shared with me' folder. Overall listening time is 1 and a half hours, should you choose to listen to it and read along. If you did three half hour blocks, you would have the reading/listening completed. We will discuss what has happened up to this point on Friday, in our second zoom session.
We will continue with reading/discussing the text when we are back at school. If you fall behind with the reading (or reading/listening) then it will mean you will have to catch up on large portions when we are back at school, or you will not be able to sit this external. It is easier to space it out now and do small chunks at a time for those of you who are not readers.
NOTE: this novel cannot be used for your personal reading responses, as you are not able to use books that are taught texts, or have been read to you.

Term 2 Week 5:
We are going to continue to work towards reading the novel. Remember, that we are using this for two assessments (in internal and an external) so it is important that you keep up. I have continued to add recordings of the next chapters into the folder I shared with you last week, so you will be able to access these if you prefer to listen and follow along in the book.
Work for this week:
1. By the end of this week, you need to read to the end of Chapter 25 of the novel. (Page 181) This is two hours of listening time, so break it down into 30 minutes slots - 30 minutes a day for four days and you will have completed the required reading for this week.
2. Work on your fourth reading response, due this Friday 15th May. If you have already done four, as many of you have, then you can either submit a fifth one or you can take a break. A reminder, too, that you can use texts from your connections (although remember that you can only use two visual texts for your responses, so if you have already written on two films you cannot do any more) so it might be a good idea to do this while the texts are fresh in your head. Remember that you should also be making progress with the extended texts required for personal reading.
Please make sure your English folder is sorted ready for school to go back. Check that you have filed documents in the right places so that you are organised and prepared for being back in the classroom.
