Term 2 Week 3:
Your connections assessment is due this Friday. Your write up needs to be complete, and in your folder for marking by the end of Friday.
Term 2 Week 4:
Your connections assessments have been copied for marking and moderation. You will know your results once this process has taken place.
We are going to look at Unfamiliar Text this week, as well as personal reading. If you would like to use a text from your connections assessment as a reading response, that will reduce your workload. Those of you doing verbal responses, feel free to send me an email if you would like to complete another response while the text is still fresh in your head. I will schedule a zoom session for you.
Work will be shared and explained at our first zoom session this week.
Tasks this week:
Task:
I have sent you all an email with the link to join my Level 2 class quizlet class. Please sign up if you have not already done so, using a sensible name. Once you have joined the class, work through either the 'L2 NCEA Unfamiliar Text - easy' or the 'L2 NCEA Unfamiliar Text - harder' quizzes - you can do any of the games or activities that you like, and remember it records your placing and your times.
For those who would like a more challenging one, work through the 'L2 NCEA Unfamiliar Text - terms and effects' quiz. This is for those of you who know the definitions.
Task 2:
I have shared a folder with you called 'Term 2 Week 4 L2 UT work for the week'. Inside is a video, and the doc for task 2 and task 3. Watch the video. Then, make a copy of the 'Effects of language features - jumbled task' doc and file it in your Unfamiliar Text folder. Complete the 'Effects of language features - jumbled' task. (You will get a copy of the answers for checking later).
Task 3:
Complete the L2 UT task inside the shared folder. It is called 'Word analysis - breaking down unfamiliar text and practice.' Complete the activities. The extension question is optional. Share with me when done.
Task 4:
Spend some time reading towards your personal responses - remember that you should be making some progress with your chosen novel. If you want to work on a response and share it with me for marking, then do so.

Term 2 Week 5:
This week we will continue to complete tasks towards the Level 2 Unfamiliar Text external. I have shared a folder called 'Term 2 Week 5 - Unfamiliar Text.' Inside that folder are two tasks to be completed. Both tasks should be copied and moved to your 'Unfamiliar Text' sub folder in your English folder.
Inside the folder you will find:
1. Check last week's jumbled language features task by using the answer sheet contained inside this week's folder. Correct any incorrect answers.
2. Complete BOTH unfamiliar text tasks and their associated activities. Follow all instructions on the doc, including the sharing of your work.
3. Once complete, work towards your personal reading response. The next one is due at the end of this week - Friday 15th May. (Remember that you may use texts from your connections for personal reading as well - just keep in mind that you are only able to do two visual texts. If you have already done two visual texts for your responses up to this point, then you cannot use any more).
4. Tidy up your English folder. Make sure you are prepared for school. All work should be filed correctly inside your English folder. Make sure you have put the work in the right places.
